Joining Toastmasters has pushed me out of my comfort zone faster than what I thought. I have stopped hiding behind "I'm not a confident speaker", and started doing the work. The nerves haven't disappeared, but I'm learning to control them and think on my feet instead of freezing. It's not perfect, but It's miles ahead of were I started, thanks to everyone who has guided me and supported me at Toastmasters!

    Tom Zhu

My name is Tom Zhu, and I joined Riverwood Toastmasters in June 2024.

When I first arrived, I lacked confidence and struggled to express myself fluently in English. Through regular meetings and a supportive environment, I gradually found my voice.

Over time, I’ve learned how to prepare meeting agendas, take on the Sergeant at Arms (SAA) role, and help set up the meeting room. Toastmasters has given me valuable opportunities to improve my English speaking, build social confidence, and develop leadership skills. It has truly supported my growth in a well-rounded way.
